Essential Vaccines and Everyday Immunity Tips
The Importance of Key Vaccines
I’m not sure if the information from the infectious disease specialist is out yet, but we believe some vaccines are essential. Some vaccines are non-negotiable.
We skipped over HPV; it's important and falls between infancy and old age. Consider getting vaccinated and talking to your doctor. Vaccination can be a personal and sometimes political choice.
Certain vaccines, like those for mumps and rubella, have faced media attention and become politicised, which pushed some people away from vaccinations. It’s a big issue.
Simple Daily Habits to Reduce Infection Risk
To improve immunity and reduce infection risk, here are some tips.
1. Wash your hands: Your mom taught you this as a kid. Always wash your hands before handling or eating food. It annoys me when I see someone not washing their hands after using the bathroom. Please wash your hands!
2. Clean commonly touched surfaces, like counters, door handles, and your phone, since you bring these close to your face.
3. Be sure to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze to safeguard those nearby.
4. Avoid touching your face: During the pandemic, we learned just how often we touch our faces. Try to keep your hands away from your face.
5. Don’t share cutlery or glasses: This is especially common in universities, where meningitis can spread easily because of shared items like straws and glassware.
6. If you are really sick: think about staying home from social gatherings or work. It’s a personal decision based on how you feel and who you are around.
Stay hydrated. If you're feeling really unwell, make sure to rest and drink plenty of fluids. I often forget to drink enough water during the day, and it’s something I need to work on.
Keeping your mucus membranes moist is important for your immune system to work effectively. Dry mucus membranes can increase your risk of getting sick. These membranes line your nose and mouth, and they tend to get very dry, especially in the winter here in Canada.
Supporting Your Immune System Naturally
Take care of your immunity. Help it work properly and avoid making it struggle. It’s about supporting your immune system effectively.
